Speaking Is A Reduction Of Singing

Instead of thinking of singing as an extension of speaking, turn your perspective around and see it the way it is: speaking is a reduction of singing.

As a species, before we had words, we used the entirety of our range to convey our emotions and to communicate with each other. We would use swooping sirens to alert each other, deep sounds and grunts to express discontent, high pitched laughter to express joy.

Fast forward a couple thousand years, and now we have speech. Another word for speech is reduced singing.

Instead of seeing achieving the ability to sing as moving forward into the future of what your voice should be, think of it as a way of going back to your original state as a vocal primate. It’s all already in there waiting to be uncovered – that is the calling you feel.
